On 21st April 2016, INPIM Nepal was organized its Fourteenth Talk Program as part of in the series of talk programs. The talk program was organized in the Department of Irrigation (DOI) main hall, Jawalakhel, Lalitpur. The topic for this time was “Solar Water Pumping: Experiences from India”. The main presenter of the program was Dr. Robert (Bob) Yoder.
At the onset of the program, Mr. Bashu Dev Lohanee, General Secretary of INPIM-Nepal, gave a brief introduction of Dr. Yoder and described about his contribution to the irrigation sector in Nepal. He also went on to explain about the relevance of solar water pumping and how it is being promoted in Nepal.
The main presentation was made by Dr. Robert Yoder. In his presentation, Dr. Yoder described the different components of solar powered irrigation systems and explained the different experiences gained from the installation of solar pumps in mainly from Gujrat, India. He also presented the economic analysis and concluded that even though cost of investments in solar panels can be recovered in the long run, its investment is still expensive compared to other traditional modes of irrigation.
At the end of the talk program, the participants actively participated in the question/ answer session. They raised many questions related to the different systems of solar powered irrigation system and how effectively they function. Dr. Yoder responded these queries one by one to the satisfaction of the participants of the talk program.
