INPIM-Nepal is the national chapter of International Network on Participatory Irrigation Management (INPIM) in Nepal. It was first initiated in April 30, 1997 with the formation of an ad-hoc committee under the chairmanship of the then Director General of the Department of Irrigation (DOI). The early initiatives were taken by the DOI staff but the organization soon expanded to include farmer representatives, researchers and other development workers. The first major event organized under the auspices of INPIM-Nepal was the PIM National Workshop held on November 10-14, 1998 at the Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science, Rampur in Chitwan District. Since this time INPIM-Nepal has been organizing conferences, talk programs and other intellectual exchanges on a regular basis with the objective of promoting participatory approaches to irrigation and water resources management.
Since the last 21 years, INPIM Nepal has been serving as the knowledge hub and resource centre on Participatory Irrigation Management (PIM) in Nepal. It has been engaged in the exchange of knowledge and networking among water professionals and organizations working on the promotion of PIM, expansion of best practices, dissemination of pertinent information, including training materials and other resources.
